Virtual Assistant Client Case Study: The Ambitious Academic
So, what is it that you do?
In an effort to answer this question, let me give you an example. This is the story of how I helped a busy academic prepare to apply for a high-stakes job opportunity.
The Client
My client was a busy professional with a long and successful career in Higher Education. They had become aware of an amazing job opportunity at a prestigious university and knew they had to apply.
Their Problem
Despite their stellar credentials, my client was acutely aware of how strong the field of applicants for these once-in-a-blue-moon jobs can be. They wanted to submit an immaculate application to make the best possible impression. They also knew that organising information and formatting documents wasn’t their strong point. Not to mention they were on a tight deadline, the position would remain open for just two weeks.
How I Helped
My client had an accomplished and varied professional history in academia and had over the years amassed an increasingly disorganised collection of papers and evidence - versions of their CV, cover letters, accreditations, awards and recommendations. My task was to sift through and synthesise the information, bring it all together into a beautifully presented CV and update the client’s LinkedIn profile to match.
I began by selecting from my collection of CV templates and adapting it according to the client’s preferred look and feel. I then lifted the relevant information from the collection of source documents the client had provided and tailored it to fit the job description and person specification for the role. Finally, I formatted, checked and proofread the document for a final flourish.
With their CV now shipshape I set to work on polishing the client’s LinkedIn profile. I optimised their headline, personalised their URL and corrected small inconsistencies and typos in order that their profile tallied faultlessly with their CV. I also added extra sections to enhance their profile by showcasing their achievements and career highlights.
Armed with their first-rate CV and flawless LinkedIn profile, my client went on to submit an impeccably prepared and confident application comfortably in time for the deadline.
